NFL team Cowboys transfer Parsons to Packers in significant trade agreement
Dallas Cowboys Trade Defensive Star Micah Parsons to Green Bay Packers
After a series of negotiations and unexpected twists, the Dallas Cowboys have traded their defensive star Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. The trade, which took place before the 2025 season, includes a 2026 first-round draft pick, a 2027 first-round draft pick, and Pro Bowler Kenny Clark.
The news of Parsons' medical clearance to play this week came as a relief to Cowboys fans, who had been anxiously waiting for updates on the defensive star's health. However, it seems that Parsons' future lies with the Green Bay Packers now.
The saga began in March when Cowboys owner Jerry Jones initially thought he had a handshake deal with Parsons. But, with just one week remaining before the 2025 season, Jones backtracked on his decision. Parsons, who had expressed his frustration with the lack of a deal, eventually agreed to a four-year, $188 million contract with the Green Bay Packers.
The contract, which includes $120 million fully guaranteed at signing and $136 million in total guarantees, marks a significant move for the Packers. Parsons, along with Hall of Famer Reggie White, is one of two NFL players to record at least 12 quarterback sacks in each of their first four campaigns.
Despite the trade, Parsons' heart has always been with the Dallas Cowboys. In a statement on social media, he thanked Dallas fans for their support and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play for the team.
The Cowboys, who selected Parsons in the first round of the 2021 draft, will now have to rely on other players to fill the void left by their defensive star. The team will host the Super Bowl champion Eagles in the 2025 season opener on September 4, a challenging start to the season without Parsons.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers are on the road in week one, playing the Lions in Detroit on September 7. The addition of Parsons is expected to significantly bolster the Packers' defence, providing a strong start to their 2025 campaign.
Throughout the negotiations, Jerry Jones, the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, was the person who conducted the contract extension negotiations for Parsons. Despite showing no urgency in the negotiations, Jones eventually facilitated the transfer of Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.
Parsons, who claimed in June he was suffering from a tight back, attended training camp but did not fully participate in practice. Coach Brian Schottenheimer had no assurance from Parsons that he would be ready to play in the 2025 season opener.
Despite the trade, Parsons never made any demands or asked for anything more than fairness. The Cowboys, who have a reputation for nurturing talent, will now have to move on without one of their brightest stars. The Packers, on the other hand, have secured a player who has consistently proven his worth on the field.
