Following the initial chaos, the defeated party commemorates the Iron Wedding.
In a heartwarming tale of love, resilience, and community, Rosemarie and Günter Ordon from Verl, Westphalia, are preparing to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Their journey, filled with challenges and triumphs, began in an unexpected place – a rehabilitation center.
Rosemarie met Günter, the owner of her current apartment, after a bicycle accident. The two quickly discovered a shared bond, and it wasn't long before Rosemarie realised that Günter was the man for her. Günter, who was born in Upper Silesia and later moved to Sauerland after the war, had spent his childhood and youth in Oerlinghausen, living in a children's home.
The path to marriage was not without its hurdles. Due to Rosemarie's age, bureaucratic obstacles had to be overcome. But the couple persevered, and their union was finally blessed. The documents necessary for their marriage were located in their Silesian homeland.
Günter, a versatile worker, has had stints in various sectors, including industry, construction, and as a prison officer in Bielefeld-Ummeln. Rosemarie, after learning the weaver's trade, chose a career as a professional waitress.
The couple, who emphasise the importance of movement, especially in old age, later found a home in Hagen, Westphalia, and have since moved to Verl, where they reside opposite the Heimathaus and St. Anna's Church for six years now.
The Ordon family consists of three children: Silvia, Gabriele, and Günter. The family, which also includes two grandchildren, is part of a close-knit community in their residence. They maintain their community and engage in bowling three times a week. To keep their minds sharp, they enjoy card games, puzzles, and brain teasers.
As they prepare to celebrate this significant milestone, the Ordon family plans to celebrate with their family and friends. Their story is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the importance of community in overcoming life's challenges. Here's to many more years of love and happiness for the Ordon family!
